Details
FocalPay Marketplace lets stores buy from wholesalers and producers across the Nordic markets, in Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Icelandic and English. Its wedge is a reorder engine: it reads live stock and sales velocity, flags what is about to run out, suggests quantities that respect minimum order sizes and defaults to the cheapest supplier, so a list of suggestions becomes a basket in one step. Around it sit the catalog and listings, basket and orders, messaging, logistics, party management and a super-admin panel.
FocalPay acts as a directory and never touches trade money. Every order produces a sealed, tamper-evident trade record, and FocalPay earns a commission that it invoices monthly.
I am the main engineer, with about 110 of the first 155 commits, across both ends. The front end is Angular 22 written the modern way: zoneless, signals, standalone and OnPush, with headless Spartan components, TanStack Table with virtual scroll and Tailwind v4 on design tokens. The back end is a Java 25 and Spring Boot 4.1 modular monolith with seven bounded contexts in a hexagonal layout, boundaries checked by ArchUnit, PostgreSQL with 39 Flyway migrations, about 150 endpoints, and an order state machine modelled with sealed interfaces. Sign-in runs on Spring Authorization Server, and every user only ever sees their own organisation's data.
Money and language got real care: amounts are stored in minor units with a currency registry (the Icelandic króna has no decimals), VAT is calculated per country, sorting and search follow each language's collation, and ICU messages get Icelandic plurals right. I wrote more than 30 architecture decision records, and the build has its own gates for missing translation keys, money handling and temporary facades that outlive their deadline. The platform is in staged delivery toward its first pilot store.
