Fault injection attacks can be studied with real hardware experiments or with simulation. Experiments show that something broke but not why, and simulation shows the details but may not match reality. This work uses both on C functions running on a RISC-V embedded system: clock-glitching experiments find the sensitive parts of a program, simulation pinpoints the faulty operations behind them, and those findings are fed back to tune the experiments. How many more vulnerabilities that loop uncovered is in the paper.
